Chine-collé

metal, laser cut allyminium

soft ground etching

70 x 100 cm.

In Theocharous' work, the lines and forms added to the rusty metal surface are maps of his fingertip imprints as they move during ephemeral daily actions. These imprints highlight an everyday aesthetic that we usually neglect. That is, these movements are not simple or meaningless, but through them, we communicate and relate to the world and thus charge them with beauty and poetics. As these movements are mapped and transferred onto an oxidised surface that changes through time, the work expresses a deeper questioning of the transition to a new way of perceiving and creating that emerges from the contemporary era of immediacy and information. By insisting on the transformation of the ordinary into an artistic object, the artist paves the way for the discovery of new and unexpected worlds and aesthetic approaches. Theocharous' work highlights the importance of gestures, the invisible worlds they create, and the emerging telematic society where technology and image creation through it is radically changing the human experience.
